Government Workers Favor Apps

According to a recent survey by the Government Business Council, 81 percent of federal managers own a mobile smartphone or tablet computer, and nearly half are Blackberries. Apple’s iPhone and iPad constitute 34 percent, and Android claims 25 percent.

Other statistics from the GBC’s survey:

>> 83 percent of federal smartphone or tablet users have used a mobile app.

>> 44 percent have downloaded an app in the past week.

>> 49 percent use mobile apps more than once per day.

>> In contrast, only 15 percent of federal smartphone or tablet users have downloaded a government mobile app.

>> 38 percent of managers are unaware of government mobile apps.

>> 67 percent do not know if their agency has created or plans to create a mobile app.

>> 68 percent of managers favor government app creation, citing the need to keep up with technology, reduce search time, and make government accessible for low-income people who only use the internet on mobile device.

>> 90 percent of managers aged 25-54 favor government app creation.
